Due to the fact that my best friend moved to Florida in 2017, of course I had to visit her immediately last Summer. This year I wanted to spend again a few weeks with her, so I traveled to Miami again, focused on exploring places I haven’t seen last year of course. Amongst other things we found this „place to be“ coincidentally while driving along the Keys looking for a nice place to have some drinks: The Upper Matecumbe Key. The Upper Matecumbe Key is an island in the upper Florida Keys. A number of Indian mounds and habitation sites are located here. The famous Overseas Highway crosses the key between Windley Key and Lower Matecumbe Key. So we found the Morada Bay Beach Cafe (MM81 BS) with its colorful chairs and tables, which is the perfect spot for having a light Keys lunch and some cocktails while enjoying a great ocean view. There you HAVE to try the exotic watermelon salad – it’s such a delicious and light dish. You will love it! Not far from the Morada Bay Beach Cafe you will find Robbie’s. The attraction here is that you can buy some baits and dangle some fish over the side of the docks and watch the enormous fish erupt from the water to grab them. Also the cute pelican lookalikes try to get some of the special fish dish – they even are not afraid to grab some bait directly from your hands. And if you’re lucky, you will also get the chance to see a manatee. Once you’ve had enough of all that excitement, you can dine on fish tacos, cracked conch, and shrimp burritos at the waterfront bar and restaurant or shop some tropical souvenirs.
