Hey babes,
I’m back from the USA and so exited to talk about my latest experiences and impressions to you. As we experienced a lot and I’m not interested in annoying you with too many words, I thought about splitting my travel report into several posts. Today it’s first about week 1 in Miami / Fort Lauderdale and how we spent our time there.
Welcome to Miami
After 11 hours of flight Kristijan and I finally landed at the Miami International Airport and I couldn’t imagine that I would be able to forget the rainy and cold weather in Munich so quickly. When leaving the air-conditioned airport, I suddenly felt the pleasant warm and humid summer breeze blowing through my hair and I smelled the sun, salt and sea. We have arrived finally! YEAH!
I have to say that we were pretty lucky to spend our three weeks of vacays at my best friends and her husbands house, thus we had the chance to explore Florida’s east coast whenever and however we felt like.
The first week was only about relaxing, enjoying beaches and sunshine, therefore we spent a lot of time at different breathtaking beaches like Key Biscayne, Fort Lauderdale by the sea und Miami South Beach. But actually also the pool and the whole spa of the luxurious residential complex of my friend invited definitely to relax and to linger. Night temperature is exactly the same as day temperature, therefore we were able to enjoy the pool and jump into the sea also after 10 p.m. What a feeling!
Of course a jaunt with the convertible through the Ocean Drive is a must, as Miami City is so multifaceted! With the Miami Seaquarium, the Coconut Grove, Little Havana, the Wynwood Art District, Miami Downtown, Miami Design District and Star Island I listed just a few of the many interesting attractions of the Magic City. For Casino fans I can highly recommend the huge Seminole Hard Rock Casino. Las Vegas-flair is guaranteed and in case you don’t like gambling, there is the possibility to admire an exhibition of some original concert outfits of great pop icons like Michael Jackson, Madonna and Lady Gaga.
The Ocean Drive begins at the picturesque South Pointe Park and is the heart of the Art déco District. Behind the boulevard a huge and fine beach is situated, where you can sunbathe and relax after a long city and shopping trip.
Miami is definitely the cultural heart of Florida and presents itself indeed very authentic and unique. Miami is the homeland of the countless art galleries you can discover in the Wynwood Art District. It shows 70 galleries, museums und collections. This quarter is restricted just about by the North 36th Street (U.S. Highway 27), North 20th Street, Interstate 95 and Northeast First Avenue. You can explore the Wynwood Walls by foot and savour afterwards a coffee in one of the stylish and fancy furnished coffee shops.
Another importatnt issue related to America is Fast Food of course! No, it’s not healthy and no, it’s also not vegan and so on. But when on holidays it’s okay to cheat once or twice, right…? So we tried our first original american burger at BURGERFI. Well, I have no words that could describe that taste… I was in fast food heaven! Our fries were marinated with a “truffle-parmesan-garlic-herbs-aioli” mixture and I’m still dreaming of the CEO Burger (also with truffle, aioli, bacon and cheese)! YUMMIE!
So much for our first week in Miami. We had a great time and first of all, we relaxed a lot. I really look forward to week 2.
